How to Schedule Your Florida Contractor Exam With Pearson VUE
Learn how to schedule your Florida contractor exam with Pearson VUE, from approval to test day. Need help? Talk to the LicenseFix team.
The Pearson VUE Florida contractor exam schedule works in two steps: you get approved first, then you book your seat. According to the DBPR Candidate Information Booklet, you apply with Professional Testing, Inc., and after they approve you, you schedule each exam with Pearson VUE. Booking before approval does not work, so start with the application.
This guide walks through the steps, the rules for appointments, what to bring, and what to do if a result is not a pass. We checked it against the DBPR booklet (effective July 2024) and the Pearson VUE Florida construction page in September 2026.
How do you schedule the Florida contractor exam with Pearson VUE?
To schedule the Florida contractor exam with Pearson VUE, follow these steps in order:
- Apply for the exam with Professional Testing, Inc. at floridaexam.com or by phone at 407.264.0562.
- Wait for approval. Pearson VUE schedules you only after it receives the authorization from the DBPR side.
- Create a Pearson VUE account and pick your exam, date, and test center, or call 1.888.204.6230.
- Pay the exam administration fee to Pearson VUE when you book.
- Save your confirmation and the candidate identification number from your authorization notice.
The booklet adds that candidates who already know their candidate identification number do not have to wait for a confirmation letter to make a reservation. Keep the number handy when you call or log in.
One detail from Pearson VUE matters more than it looks: register your legal name exactly as it appears on your government issued ID. The name you enter is the one printed on your result documents and on the reports sent to your licensing agency, so a typo can cause trouble later. Pearson VUE customer service is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Central Time, Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
What is the Florida contractor exam schedule?
The Florida contractor exam schedule is flexible, because DBPR runs the CILB exams as computer based tests offered daily at testing sites. Pearson VUE says appointments can be made up to one calendar day before the day you want to test, subject to availability. The booklet still recommends calling at least five business days ahead, since reservations are first come, first served.
The number of exams depends on your license. Division I contractors (general, building, and residential) take three exams: Business and Finance, Contract Administration, and Project Management. Division II contractors take two: Business and Finance and General Trade Knowledge. The Business and Finance exam has 120 scored questions and 6.5 hours, so plan a full day. For pacing, read our exam format guide.
Where are the Florida contractor license exam locations?
Florida contractor license exam locations are Pearson VUE test centers. DBPR says its computer based exams are offered on a daily basis at testing sites throughout the world, and you can search for a center near you on the Pearson VUE Florida construction page. Availability changes by center, so book as early as you can when you need a specific date.
Choose a center you can reach without stress. A late arrival can cost you. The booklet says a candidate who cannot be accommodated because of unexcused tardiness is liable for that day's test fee and is classified as a no show.
How much does the contractor license exam in Florida cost?
The cost of the contractor license exam in Florida is billed in two parts. DBPR's exam application pack describes a registration fee paid to Professional Testing, Inc., plus a separate exam administration fee for each exam that you pay Pearson VUE when you schedule. The booklet also says DBPR raised the computer based exam fees effective January 3, 2023.
Because amounts change, we do not quote a number here. Check the current fee page on the DBPR website before you register, and budget for every exam in your license path. Our license cost guide covers the full picture, including books and application fees.
What should you bring to your CILB exam appointment?
For the CILB exam, bring two forms of valid signature identification, and at least one must be government issued, such as a driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID. Student or employment cards and photo credit cards do not count. Your name and address must match your application, or you will not be admitted.
Calculators are allowed only if they are silent, hand held, battery operated, nonprinting, and without an alphabetic keypad. Personal items stay in a locker, and small items must fit in a clear plastic bag no larger than 8 by 11 inches. To cancel without losing your fee, contact Pearson VUE at least two full calendar days before the appointment. For a Monday appointment, that means by midnight the Friday before. Once you are in the room, you need the Test Center Manager's permission to leave, and you do not get extra time to make up for it.
What happens if you fail the Florida contractor exam?
What happens if you fail the Florida contractor exam is clear and immediate: every candidate receives an official exam result report right after finishing, so you know the same day. The exam is scored as a percentage, you need 70% on each exam, and scores are not rounded up.
You can review the questions you missed. The request must be made within 21 days of the exam, only your most recent exam can be reviewed, and you see only the questions you answered incorrectly. To sit again, you must reapply directly with Professional Testing, Inc. The booklet also says a candidate who passes and applies for another category may be exempt from retaking Business and Finance. Read our mistakes to avoid before a retake.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you schedule the exam before you are approved?
No. Pearson VUE schedules you only after Professional Testing, Inc. has approved your application and the DBPR side has authorized you.
How far ahead should you book?
Pearson VUE allows appointments up to one calendar day before the test, subject to availability, but the DBPR booklet recommends calling at least five business days ahead.
Do you schedule each exam separately?
Yes. Each exam is its own appointment. DBPR's exam application pack says Pearson VUE collects a separate administration fee for Business and Finance, Trade Knowledge, Contract Administration, and Project Management when you schedule each one.
What if you miss your appointment?
The booklet lists excused reasons: illness, a death in the immediate family, a disabling traffic accident, court or jury duty, and military duty. You must send written proof to Pearson VUE within four days. Without an excuse, you pay in full and may need to reapply.
Can you cancel or reschedule?
Yes. Contact Pearson VUE at least two days before your appointment. Cancelling later or missing the exam may forfeit your exam fee.
